Skeet Shooting Instructions

Welcome to Skeet

Here you will find complete Skeet shooting instructions -- with diagrams for stance, swing, and lead for all the shooting stations -- mainly taken from an Army skeet-shooting pamphlet circa 1950, but with some refinements and updating.

My dad used these instructions to shoot “150 straight” back in 1957. I, myself, get out to the range only 5 or 6 times a year, but have managed to break 25 straight once in a while using these very instructions. So, let’s begin ----

Foreword

If you are reading this because you believe you’ll be able to break twenty-five straight when you finish the last page -- stop right here -- do not read any further.  No one has or ever will become a skilled shot just from reading a book, looking at pictures, or studying diagrams.

There is only one way to learn to shoot -- and that is to shoot.

However, you should find this material exceptionally helpful.  It inludes enjoyable diagrams and text that will make the sport of skeet shooting come to life for you.

One caveat:  This material is not intended to be "the last word" or the "only way."  It is intended to provide you with sound fundamentals with which to begin. As your proficiency increases, you will learn why and how to vary your own practices to suit your eyesight, stance, swing, and follow-through.
